Restaurant Cook Job Responsibilities:
Food Preparation and Cooking: Prepare and cook menu items following recipes, portion control, and presentation guidelines. Ensure dishes are cooked to the correct temperature and meet customer expectations.
Quality Control: Ensure that all food products meet quality and freshness standards. Regularly taste dishes to ensure quality and flavor.
Kitchen Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment. Properly store and label ingredients and leftovers. Ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained regularly.
Safety and Sanitation: Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures. Comply with local and state health department regulations.
Teamwork: Collaborate with other kitchen staff and front-of-house personnel to ensure smooth service and communication. Be willing to assist with other tasks as needed.
Inventory and Stock Management: Assist in managing inventory, including ordering and restocking ingredients as needed. Monitor food waste and find ways to minimize it.
Customer Interaction: Occasionally interact with customers, particularly in open-kitchen settings or special events. Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor.
Problem-Solving: Address and resolve kitchen issues as they arise, including equipment malfunctions and ingredient shortages. Alert management to any major issues.
Continuous Improvement: Participate in ongoing training and development to improve cooking skills and stay updated on new culinary trends and techniques.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Experience: Prior experience as a cook or line cook in a restaurant setting. Specific experience with the type of cuisine offered by the restaurant is preferred.
- Culinary Skills: Strong cooking skills and knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, and kitchen equipment.
- Food Safety Certification: Valid food handler’s permit or Serv Safe certification (or ability to obtain one).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail and commitment to quality.
- Team Player: Ability to work well with others and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
